Digital Future of Oxford Street workshop

A few weeks ago we held a nice little workshop at Flyn’s Tractor Design School on  the ‘Digital Future of Oxford Street‘, fusing a an intro to UX and wire framing with a bit of digital creativity in the realm of urban planning. With a mixed audience of partly junior design professionals and some novices we enjoyed our 2 hours of ‘digitally augmenting’ the experience of being on Oxford Street. Here’s the recording of our live video stream, where you can see Flyn, Gabriel and myself.

6 Days with Baz Luhrmann

If you had 6 days with Baz Luhrman, would you try to shoot a science fiction film? I am totally in favour of brands supporting independent film making. As did Samsung with their “The Shoot” project.

I would have loved to have access to this sort of knowledge and support when I was fumbling through my student film class. I am just wondering if a less ambitious plot than an existential mars colony drama would have been easier to produce and created a better result. But probably I am just grumpy that I produced much worse films back in my fine arts school days…

Digital Trends 2013

In digital agencies we often work in uncharted territory and therefore spend much time thinking about the big question “What’s Next?”. Where and how do we spend our future creative efforts? For the benefit of brands, clients and agencies alike, we better get that one right. Read up on these three reports: Razorfish’s Outlook, Reactive’s Perspectives and VJ-Isobar’s FYI – and make the right calls for the future.

My agency Reactive‘s Perspectives ( free PDF download Slideshare version ) covers topics like ‘Who really owns your social content?‘, ‘The Personalisation of Everything‘ and ‘How to create great work‘.

Cannes Cyber Lion for Most Powerful Arm

Needless to say, all of us at Reactive are mightily chuffed about receiving the Bronze Cyber Lion in ‘Best Use of Technology’. Much respect also to our collaborators Finch, Havas and Red PR. See our submission video below and find all the Cannes Cyber Lion winners here.

Also have a look at our full submission page (with added responsive goodness) that includes the strategy and full results.

Best of TEDXSydney 2013

I attended TEDxSydney  on Saturday which had moved to iconic Sydney Opera House as a venue. This year’s 2,200 attendees were deliciously catered for by Matt Moran and the grass roots movement ‘Grow it local’.
Telstra, Qantas, Samsung, U of Syd and NAB were some of the main sponsors, lending a more corporate component. At the same time the conference was still retaining a lot of the activism and volunteering spirit.

Best musical performer (IMHO) was Kate Miller-Heidke, best MC Jess Scully, most famous attendee Marc Newson and probably most powerful speech by Omar Musan.

The above photos are posted under CreativeCommons from TEDxSydney’s flickr stream.

The talks themselves are still being edited so I will update this blog with another post when they are available on their YouTube channel

Here are my personal favourites from the films they played in between:
