Splendour in the Grass and on YouTube

This Sunday afternoon from 4pm onwards Splendour in The Grass will be running as a free live stream in the masthead on YouTube’s homepage as well as on Virgin Mobile’s channel. This is a first for paid media in our region so everyone here at Mojo is properly chuffed about getting this up.

Many people here including our partner agencies and Google have been working hard to make this happen. If you do live in the right region please enjoy the free stream of a pretty good line up consisting of Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, Cloud Control, Elbow, Vaccines and The Vines.

Even better, if you happen to be mucking around at Splendour itself, or know someone that is and/or have a Twitter or Instagram account, please participate with the hashtags #splendour, #splendourlive or #SITG . All tweets will be picked up and displayed underneath the videostream. And some of the Instagram shots might end up in The Vaccines new crowdsourced music video.

There are also live streaming parties running in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne this Sunday, so come on down to the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi or the Bimbo DeLuxe in Fitzroy from 4pm on Sunday and enjoy the festival atmosphere without the mud!

LG Smart TV puts you into the impossibly awesome movie trailer

We recently got tasked by LG Australia to create an online campaign for their top range of Smart TVs. The general point of Smart or Connected TVs is to combine web browsing and accessing personal and social media with  scheduled free-to-air and cable TV programs.

We created a not-so serious dramatisation of the users’ entertainment options. Our “Your Digital Life” makes you the hero of an impossibly awesome movie trailer. From action, sports to romance, you can have it all. Oh, and did we mention a Nobel Prize worthy intellect holding it all together?

The talent in this example is Tim Burrowes, editor of Australian marketing blog Mumbrella. The Facebook integration contains potentially a world first. As soon as you connect via facebook “Your Digital Life” features your face, personal facts and friends prominently in the film. But additionally it uses text-to-speech to turn 2 of your status updates into dialogue in it. So true to the tag line, an LG Cinema 3D Smart TV really “puts you in the picture”.

Just today I stumbled across a classic Italian animation, “La Ligna” with a story line not unlike our “Your Digital Life”. Being framed in the television set did not seem so desirable back in the 1970s.

Additionally, BBH Labs wrote an interesting piece on the impact of connected TV on video content production and advertising. Check it out here: Part 1 and Part 2. Indeed, how much will these TV sets change the way we couch surf? What do you think?

Give The Boxer some love

Entries for Good Work on YouTube have closed and soon the jury under guidance from Craig Davis will pick a winning entry. I am quite chuffed that my colleague Henry Hall (with the help of some other lovely people here at Mojo) has entered his video. It is called ‘The Boxer‘ and was conceived and produced as a response to a brief from SOS – Casas de Acolhida. The Brazilian organisation works for the protection of children aged 0 – 6 from domestic violence.

Being a dad myself this stuff cuts pretty close to the bone, so please give the film some love by liking it here.

Get involved with Creative Social Sydney

We interviewed our speakers Louise and Richard before Tuesday’s get together at MOJO / Amnesia Razorfish and here’s the video of the night, a bit rough around the edges.

Here are also a few snapshots taken during the two talks.

Both speakers are keen to take their projects further, so if you are intrigued by their work, identify with their projects and feel like you could contribute, please do get in touch via their respective sites:

Louise Hawson’s 52 Suburbs
Louise is planning to get ’52 Cities’ underway soon, and you would guess she is not talking about 52 cities within Australia. So as per Ben Cooper‘s suggestion, you might see her project gain traction on Kickstarter soon.

Richard Vevers Underwater Sydney
Richard’s project is getting major digital support from BMF through our Creative Social member Aaron Michie. But BMF building a new site won’t be enough, so if you are an agency willing to donate time and expertise in whatever field of communication, please get in touch. The underwater sea life literally needs more visibility.

The next Creative Social takes place at The Hallway, hosted by Jules Hall and Jamie Corker, speaker still to be announced.

Creative Social featuring ’52 Suburbs’ and ‘Underwater Sydney’

I am really excited about tonight’s Creative Social (more on CS below), this time hosted by Amnesia Razorfish and myself here at MOJO. We have the pleasure of welcoming two speakers, both ex-advertising professionals, who explore our home town Sydney in very artistic and unusual ways.

Louise Hawson is the author of popular blog 52 Suburbs, a search for beauty in Sydney’s more than 600 suburbs. Her work consist mainly of photo diptychs, taken in documentary style over the course of (you guessed it) one year. The body of work is now being turned into a book (to be released in May as part of Sydney Writers Festival) and an exhibition (to be opened at Museum of Sydney May 14) . Have a peek at the list of suburbs and see if yours has been explored by her.

Our second speaker is Richard Vevers who is a member of Underwater Sydney, a conservation effort for Sydney’s beautiful underwater coastline. He will speak about his passion for diving and underwater photography – and how it took him to get involved in this noble cause.

Creative Social Sydney is a monthly get together of digital CDs and senior thinkers in the industry. We get involved in advising industry bodies such as IAB or ADMA, think about how to get greater and more innovative work out there, have the voice of digital creativity be heard more often, and invite inspirational speakers. Originally started in London by Mark Chalmers and Daniele Fiandaca who will be present tonight as he is in town with HyperIsland. It is now happening in numerous cities around the globe, and the lucky ones even get to travel around and have coffee in other fantastic cities (not us sadly).
